Common questions & what to know

Frozen pipes
When temperatures drop in the San Luis Valley, exposed pipes are at risk. Insulate pipes in unheated spots like basements, crawl spaces, and attics. Keep the house at a consistent temperature, and open cabinet doors so warm air reaches pipes under sinks. On the coldest nights, let faucets drip slightly. Heading out of town? Keep the thermostat at a reasonable level rather than turning it way down — or call us to winterize the property. If you suspect a pipe is already frozen, shut off the water supply and call us.
Leaking pipes
A small leak adds up — in your water bill, and in damage to your home if it goes unchecked. If something doesn't look or smell right, call us for a straight diagnosis and an honest repair.
Gas line repairs
A gas leak isn't something to wait on. If you suspect one, call us right away.
Sewer line repair & replacement
A broken sewer line is a real health risk, not just an inconvenience. Call us and we'll get it sorted.
Toilet, faucet, shower & tub repairs
Running toilet, wobbly seat, faucet that won't shut off — plenty of these are DIY-friendly. If you'd rather have a professional handle it, we're happy to help.
Water heater & furnace repairs
When a water heater or furnace quits, we can usually get it running again — or replaced — quickly.
Water heater maintenance
A water heater typically lasts 10–15 years, and annual maintenance extends that. Service includes flushing the tank, checking the anode rod, inspecting for rust or leaks, and testing the thermostat and valves.
Tank vs. tankless water heaters
Tank water heaters cost less up front and are simpler to install, but they heat water continuously and take up more floor space, and typically last 10–15 years. Tankless units heat water on demand — more energy-efficient, more compact, and often last up to 20 years — for a higher installation cost. We install and service both.

Common questions & what to know

Furnace or boiler? How to tell
Not sure which one you have? Check your baseboards. Ducts blowing warm air mean a furnace. Pipes carrying hot water mean a boiler.
Furnace maintenance
Furnaces need an annual professional tune-up and a filter change every 60 days. The filter is usually a DIY job, but call us if you'd like a hand.
Boiler maintenance
Boilers need less upkeep: keep an eye out for leaks and schedule an annual professional tune-up.
Furnace: pros & cons
Pros — heats a space quickly, distributes evenly through the home, integrates with existing ductwork, generally cheaper to install. Cons — requires existing ductwork, can affect indoor air quality if poorly maintained.
Boiler: pros & cons
Pros — energy efficient, allows zoned heating room by room, runs quietly, long-lived, doesn't circulate dust or allergens. Cons — higher installation cost, more complex to install, slower to heat up than a furnace.

How to get an estimate
Have plans? Email your PDF to est@paulsplumbingandheatingllc.com. No plans? Contact us — we'll get you on the schedule and have a crew member take a look at your project. For some jobs, like water heater or furnace replacement, we can sometimes gather what we need over the phone. Either way, expect your estimate in 10–14 business days via email.
After you accept an estimate
1. Contract agreement — once we agree on the project details, we'll send a comprehensive contract outlining scope of work, payment terms, and payment schedule. 2. Deposit payment — depending on the project, a deposit of 25–50% secures our services. Phased projects use a deposit at each phase. 3. Scheduling confirmation — once we receive the deposit, we'll reach out to coordinate a start date that works for you. 4. Professional execution — our crew gets to work with the same care and precision on every job. 5. Inspection — once work is complete, we schedule a thorough inspection to confirm everything meets standards. 6. Progress payment — after inspection and approval, the remaining balance is due, or the next phase's installment for phased projects.
